Imaduddin Suhaimi and Brian Lew attend as delegates to the Kuala Lumpur Summit, an initiative launched by the Government of Malaysia to be an alternative forum to the Organisation for the Islamic Conference to discuss issues affecting the greater Muslim world. Participants included delegates from all over the Islamic world.

Imaduddin Suhaimi and Brian Lew were sent to the International Dispute Resolution Centre (IDRC) to liaise with officials with the London Court of International Arbitration (LCIA) on an active arbitration matter.

Imaduddin Suhaimi and Brian Lew were once again at Bank Negara Malaysia, this time in the elegant Sasana Kijang centre to deliver a Continuing Professional Development session on Cloud Computing and Privacy Law. Brian Lew was appointed as consultant and appears in two episodes of RTM’s documentary Dari Meja Peguam, hosted by Sarah Hildebrand. The programme touches on different aspects of the law and each episode features a noted legal practitioner in the given field. In his episodes, Brian spoke on Intellectual Property Law and International Law.

Imaduddin Suhaimi and Brian Lew attend as delegates to the ASEAN Decentralized 2.0 Summit held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. ASEAN Decentralized 2.0 was organised by the Global Blockchain Foundation, and brought together leaders of fintech from around ASEAN to share their thoughts and products.

Imaduddin Suhaimi and Brian Lew deliver a Continuing Professional Development (CPD) session to the Legal Department of Maxis Berhad, chaired by Ms. Su Puay Ling (Head of Legal, Maxis). The session focused on the architecture of the Personal Data Protection Act 2010, the effect of the General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR) outside of the European Union, and the potential common law causes of action for breaches of personal data, as well the vicarious liability of employers for the acts of their employees.

Imaduddin Suhaimi and Brian Lew address the Kuala Lumpur Bar Committee on the inception of the Anti-Fake News Act 2018, its salient features, what is fake news, offences under section 4 of the Act, the extraterritorial effect of the Act, penalties and defences, the related offences under the Printing Press and Publications Act 1984 and the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, the judicial attitudes and an explanation of the tort of defamation as well as provisions under the Evidence Act 1950 and the liability of directors and employers.

Imaduddin Suhaimi and Brian Lew deliver a Continuing Professional Development session to the staff of Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM). The session centred on the role of the Anti-Fake News Act 2018 in the social media age, the construction of the Act from a legal perspective, other legal bases under legislation and the common law for fake news liability, the related concepts of defamation and offences under both the Printing Press and Publications Act 1984 and the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, the evidentiary burdens, as well as best practices for organisations such as BNM to put in place to control the spread of fake news.
